Poler is fascinating: Their stuff is very fashionable, their skate team includes Arto Saari and Grant Taylor, and they make camping goods. Sleep-outside products.
It took only about a year for the tiny brand from Portland to become standard issue with surfers, skaters, snowboarders, and anyone hip pitching tents. Founder Benji Wagner’s apparent genius has been to make Poler gear fit in with a youth that wears Huf instead of North Face. “The reality is surfing, skateboarding — they’re not sports, you know?” says Benji. “What’s different is the culture. It’s about embracing that vibe we all know.”
Benji’s roots are skate and cinematography, so Poler marries that scene with his love of the outdoors. Naturally, surfers have caught on too. “We’ve definitely had good reactions, and we’re going to have a surf team by summer,” says Benji.
Camping is still the surest way to surf alone, and that makes tents and sleeping bags essential surf gear. Consider Poler for your needs — we like their Man Tent, pictured here. Photos by Poler from their online Adventures series.
