• This shows my level and skill of photography — a nice crooked horizon. I’d fix it up on Photoshop or whatever but I don't know how to do that yet. I do remember being in bit of a rush, in my wetsuit mid-surf after snapping a craft. Sweet wave nonetheless. Myself, Chippa and Mitch having a ball of a time in the uncrowded lineup somewhere in the Australian desert.
  • Haha another crooked horizon, Kai doing his thing.
  • The desert jet-streams were like nothing I’d ever seen. You could see them across the entire pretty sky.
  • Me drinking a Coopers pale ale. We did that a lot down there, long hot days. I think Kai or Mitch stole my camera for this picture.
  • Ghostly rock formations out in the middle of nowhere, such a crazy mysterious vibe down there. It blows my mind how rocks are formed like that.
  • Chippa wandering in the desert dunes.
  • I think he's found something.
  • Little weird ugly lizard guy with no tail. We would drive past these little dudes every day and they would arch up and get angry. We stopped to say sorry.
  • This is in a graveyard. I'm not sure if it’s weird or not to take photos of graveyards. I hope it’s fine, no disrespect to those laid to rest.

Craig Rodney Anderson shot these photos on black-and-white film during our trip to the Australian desert, then captioned them via email from the road on another What Youth trip, to Mexico by way of Italy and Portugal. Craig is youth on the fucking run and his shot of Kai (No. 2 in the slideshow) belongs in a thousand-dollar TASCHEN hardback. It’s framed here on the wall in our studios.
